Transporters in Precision Medicine: From Orphans to Drug Targets
Transporters play a key role in precision medicine mediating the pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics of many drugs. In this lecture, after a brief historical perspective, I will describe recent studies in my laboratory using large multi-omic databases to discover the biological and pharmacological roles of orphan transporters and identify metabolomic biomarkers. These biomarkers are being used to monitor transporter activity clinically and identify transporter-mediated drug-drug interactions.
