Novel Advancements in the Treatment of Mood and Anxiety Disorders in Children and Perspectives on Implementation and Outreach in Underserved Communities

Session Description

The current pediatric mental health crisis is in a dire position that has been further exacerbated by COVID-19. While universally recognized as a public health concern, the treatment of pediatric mental health disorders, such as depression and anxiety, is associated with significant challenges such as variability in the response of first-line treatments in children and disparities in access to psychiatric care. This ASCPT 2024 session will bring together researchers and clinicians in the field of pediatric mental health to share their cutting-edge research on the treatment of mood and anxiety disorders in pediatrics and provide perspectives on real-world implementation of these findings and improving outreach for underserved communities within the US and globally.

Learning Objectives

1. Understand the novel tools and methodologies to support new treatments, or refine existing therapies, for pediatric mood and anxiety disorders
2. Explore the potential of personalized medicine to improve treatment outcomes in pediatric mood and anxiety disorders
3. Learn about efforts to advance equity in pediatric psychiatric research in vulnerable and underserved populations through outreach and community engagement
