Elizabeth McFarland, MD is Professor of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado School of Medicine, Head of the Section of Pediatric Infectious Diseases & Epidemiology, holds the Todd & Glodé Endowed Chair, and is Medical Director of the Children’s Hospital Colorado HIV Program. Dr. McFarland received her Doctorate in Medicine at Duke University School of Medicine, completed residency in Pediatrics and fellowship in Pediatric Infectious Diseases at the University of Colorado School of Medicine and Children’s Hospital Colorado. She is Vice Chair of the Cure Scientific Committee of the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Group, IMPAACT liaison to the HIV Vaccine Clinical Trials Network (HVTN), co-investigator for the Pediatrics Adolescent Virus Eradication (PAVE) Martin Delaney Collaboratory, site principal investigator for the multicenter Pediatric AIDS/HIV Cohort Study (PHACS), and member of the PHACS Nutrition, Metabolic, Growth Working Group. She has served on the AIDS Research Advisory Council, Division of AIDS (DIADS) at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). Her primary areas of research interest are HIV passive and active immunization and immune-based HIV therapy. She is leading clinical research protocols with international recruitment sites focused on HIV-1 specific broadly neutralizing monoclonal antibody (bNAb) for infants exposed to HIV-1 and for infant early antiretroviral treatment for infants, having had a leadership role in over 25 IMPAACT network trials, including six active protocols.
