Director, Digital Twin Innovation Hub; Professor
University of Nebraska - Lincoln
Dr. Helikar is a Susan J Rosowski Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. Dr. Helikar holds courtesy appointments in the School of Computing and the Department of Pharmacology and Experimental Neuroscience. Dr. Helikar obtained his Ph.D. from the Department of Pathology and Microbiology at the University of Nebraska Medical Center. His research program centers around developing Immune Digital Twins and their applications to improve our understanding of immune-related etiologies and pathologies, and the immune response as a multi-scale dynamic system. Dr. Helikar contributes to community-led interest groups to further the development of computational biology methods and guidelines, including the Interagency Modeling and Analysis Group (IMAG) MultiScale Modeling Consortium, where he co-leads a Multiscale Modeling and Viral Pandemics working group of ~300 interdisciplinary scientists; the Global Alliance for Immune Prediction and Intervention, a non-profit organization he co-founded as a result of the IMAG Working Group’s success to accelerate the development of immune digital twins as a large community effort; a Quantitative Systems Pharmacology Special Interest Group within the International Society of Pharmacometrics focused on developing new methods to integrate concepts from computational biology, machine learning, and systems pharmacology.
