Postdoctoral Researcher
University of Virginia
My name is Austin Jones and I am a postdoctoral associate within the neuroscience department in the school of medicine at the University of Virginia. I obtained my PhD in pharmacotherapy from the school of pharmacy at Virginia Commonwealth University. Currently, my research focuses on the interplay between HIV and drugs of abuse, such as opioids. Specifically, I am interested in how HIV and opioids affect neuroinflammation and cognition. I've previously used a HIV-1 Tat transgenic mouse model to assess antiretroviral concentrations and distribution within the brain using mass spectrometry imaging techniques. I also work with an infectious mouse model for HIV, known as EcoHIV, that mimics HIV infection within a mouse.
