Peter Schmidt, PhD., is Rho's Chief Scientific Officer and has an adjunct appointment as professor of neurology at New York University's Grossman School of Medicine. Trained as a mathematician, Dr. Schmidt has focused on the intersection between math and medicine, spending the majority of his career in neuroscience. He has contributed to research from bench to bedside, with a principal focus on Parkinson’s disease. Schmidt was overall PI for the Parkinson’s Outcomes Project, a 12,000 subject natural history study of Parkinson’s disease conducted at 30 centers in Europe and the US for a decade. Prior to joining Rho, Dr. Schmidt was Vice Dean at East Carolina University’s Brody School of Medicine, serving as the Chief Operating Officer of the medical school with over 300 employed physicians. Before ECU, Dr. Schmidt was Chief Research and Clinical Officer for the Parkinson’s Foundation and oversaw a over $100 million in mission spending. Dr. Schmidt's influence has spanned the globe, contributing to research and clinical programs across six contenents and has served on numerous scientific advisory boards for programs with companies such as AbbVie, Acadia Pharmaceuticals, Adamas Pharmaceuticals, Apple, Google, and Lundbeck Pharmaceuticals, as well as on diverse federal advisory panels. Educated at Harvard and Cornell, he volunteers as Chairman of the Huntington’s Study Group and Vice Chair of the Davis Phinney Foundation.
