Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Global Health
University of Liverpool
Catriona Waitt is a Professor of Clinical Pharmacology and Global Health at the University of Liverpool, UK, and is undertaking her Wellcome Clinical Research Career Development Fellow at the Infectious Diseases Institute, Makerere University College of Health Sciences, Kampala, Uganda, where she has lived since 2015. Her major interest is drug dosing and safety in populations who are complex and often neglected from clinical trials, particularly pregnant and breastfeeding mothers and their infants. Her Wellcome fellowship “MILK: Maternal and Infant Lactation pharmacokinetics” explores the transfer of a range of anti-infective drugs from mother to breastfed infant, combining clinical studies, pharmacometric approaches and community engagement and involvement. Alongside her research, she is a member of the Scientific Advisory Board for Pharmacometrics Africa and all her work has a strong capacity-building aspect.
