Dr. Walter K. Kraft is an internist and current president of the ASCPT. He is Professor of Pharmacology, Medicine and Surgery and is the director of the Clinical Research Unit at Thomas Jefferson University. He works primarily in Phase I therapeutics and has an interest in the development of novel treatments for the neonatal opioid withdrawal syndrome (NOWS). He is co-PI on the NIH-funded joint Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia / Jefferson fellowship program in Clinical Pharmacology. He is director of the Jefferson Office of Human Research, which oversees all human subjects protection for the 18-hospital Jefferson enterprise. He currently serves on the FDA Advisory committee for Clinical Pharmacology, and previously was on the executive committee of the American Board of Clinical Pharmacology. Lastly, he maintains a clinical practice in vascular medicine and the treatment of complex venous and arterial thrombotic diseases.
